You Might Be a Member of My Tribe
This is what links us together
These days I often hear people speak of tribalism when referring to political loyalties. I don’t think that is an unfair assessment of American politics, but figuring out which “tribe” you belong to can be tricky. For instance, not everyone who is pro-choice is in favor of student loan forgiveness, and vice versa. Not everyone who is in favor of reparations for Black Americans is in favor of a higher minimum wage and vice versa. It’s complicated.
Trying to figure out who your political allies are, or who your tribe is, is not an easy task. For what it’s worth, this is roughly the people who belong to my tribe. Who knows? Maybe you are in my tribe and you didn’t even know it.
If you look at a homeless person and see someone in need and not someone who is lazy, you might be a member of my tribe.
If you look at an ocean beach and realize those waves have been washing ashore ceaselessly for thousands of years, you might be a member of my tribe.
If you never get tired of seeing a deer in the wild, you might be a member of my tribe.
If you are not colorblind but instead appreciate and celebrate the differences in people, you might be a member of my tribe.
