White people have weaponized the idea of merit. A lot of my son's classmates insinuated that he got into USC because of affirmative action. The problem, of course, is that USC doesn't use quotas in their admissions process so that simply wasn't possible. He had other instances of that is well. Why was it so hard for white people to acknowledge he was smart and worked hard and earned everything he got?
