When my son was small, I made a special effort to model kindness. He watched me give money to a homeless man and then call the Salvation Army on his behalf so he had a place to sleep. He watched me give a family who had locked the keys in their car at the supermarket a ride home to get another set of keys. In raising him, I was always keenly aware that he would be learning by my example, and today at age 24 I see a kind young man who is following in his father's footsteps.
