What the U.S. Desperately Needs

The United States needs a party in the middle of the political spectrum.

I don’t know about you, but I get exhausted from following elections.

The relentless airing of political commercials pollutes our airwaves daily, nightly, and bigly. Each day when I go to my mailbox I find flyers from various candidates for every office up for election. Some flyers promote the candidate running, but more and more, they simply criticize their opponent instead.

Each side in this high-stakes tug-of-war seeks to demonize the other side. Few of these commercials are actually paid for by the individual candidate’s campaign.

Instead, they are paid for by supportive political action committees (PACs) whose members and donors are secret. No one knows who is supporting these PACs or how much money they are donating. No one knows who belongs to a PAC or what their agenda is.

This “dark money” seeks to influence voters by creating negative impressions of the people they are running against rather than promoting their own ideas.

The United States Supreme Court ruled some time ago that “money is speech,” and therefore people cannot be prevented from using their money to promote candidates. The ridiculous nature of this ruling is apparent to…
