We have many parallels. I teach in inner-city Milwaukee. Of my 35 years teaching, 32 of them have been with this population. My kids are the ones who have been expelled from the city schools, so you can imagine. They are poor, black, can't read, and can't write. Many have criminal records. I get paid half of what I did when I taught in Minnesota, which is why I work a second job at Home Depot and can only write on Medium when I have a few precious hours of down time. I don't know how you do it with a toddler.
