We Did Staff Development Today on Self-Care
A report from the front lines
Today, after school and right smack-dab in the middle of Teacher Appreciation Week, we had an hour-long professional development activity on self-care. I wouldn’t even be writing this if it wasn’t so outlandish. After teaching all day, I have to stay an extra hour to learn how to de-stress.
You probably think I’m kidding about this.
I’m not. The professional development on self-care is taking place via a Zoom meeting, with each teacher in their individual classroom, and the facilitator at a remote location. With COVID, it is still considered too risky for them to come to our building and do the training in person.
We have all been with students in person all day this entire year. The school board made that decision during their board meeting that was also held via Zoom, but that is another story.
Here is how it went
Our students were dismissed at 3 p.m., giving us 30 minutes to clean up our classrooms, enter our grades, and get things in order for tomorrow. It also gave us time to fill our water bottles and go to…
