I have to be honest. I have been having a hard time keeping up with everything that is going on in our government these days. I just barely digest one news item, and five more come along to distract me from the first one. It’s not getting any easier either.

Just a month ago, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in front of his audience. Given the reaction from the political right, it sounded akin to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand that launched WWI. People were predicting that this event would start a second civil war. People on the right were calling his killer a “radical leftist.” People on the left pointed out that he came from a conservative, Christian family. Memes flooded the internet. Flags were flown at half mast. Charlie’s wife sold merch at his funeral.

Today? Few people are even talking about it anymore, except for the hard-core Charlie Kirk fans.

Since then, the government has shut down. Corporate soybean farmers are not able to sell their soybeans to China and are asking for government assistance to help them out. The National Guard has been deployed to Chicago and Portland, over the objections of the local leaders in each city. A judge in South Carolina who ruled against Trump just had her house burned down, and three family members just barely escaped…
