The Results of My Medium Experiment

I tried something just for the fun and here are the results

Two days ago I decided to conduct an experiment on Medium, given the recent implosion of earnings for those who publish on this platform. My experiment was simply to publish a rambling stream-of-consciousness piece about five minutes long. There was no real point to the piece, and I mostly just rambled. The low-quality, rambing piece I published was titled “A Writing Experiment for Medium.

What I wanted to know was the extent to which quality mattered when it came to views, claps, comments, and earnings. This past month I can only characterize the earnings as disappointing, if not actually insulting. I have read many pieces on this topic, so I know I am not alone in my frustration with Medium and its management. To this day we have yet to be given an explanation for why earnings are a small fraction of what they were only a few months ago.

Tony Stubblebine has been as silent as the grave on this matter.

After publishing the piece, I had to decide how long I would wait before analyzing the results. I wanted to know if my earlier pieces from this month, pieces I actually put some work into, would do better than a piece I just cranked out quickly. Would it get as many views and reads? Would the earnings be…
