The loneliest day of the year for me is Christmas Day for the reasons you mention. We have the kids and grandkids over on Christmas Eve for dinner and present-opening. Then on Christmas Day they go to their spouse's parents and we are left alone, with nothing open, nowhere to go, and not much to do.
