"The Jungle" is a novel by Upton Sinclair. It's set in the early 1900's and chronicles the life of a recent immigrant "Jurgis Rudkis" in the Chicago meatpacking plant. It exposes how workers were exploited by large companies when there were no protections like OSHA, etc. Sinclair was a socialist and was trying to make people aware of working conditions. Instead, the US government passed The Meat Inspection Act. Sinclair said he aimed for America's heart and hit the stomach instead.
