The Death of Charlie Kirk
Thoughts and reflections on a controversial killing
I read in the news today that someone named Charlie Kirk was killed while at a gathering in Utah. The article I read said that someone killed him by shooting him from a building about 200 yards away. He was 31 and had two kids.
Personally, I had never heard of Charlie Kirk, so I began to do a little reading about him. The fact that his killing made the news meant he was important, at least to some people. As I read about him, I came to find out he was a political activist for conservative causes, and that he frequently went to college campuses to engage in political debates with people who hold different opinions.
I read about his background. He began college, but dropped out after a short time to pursue “political activism.” He didn’t hold a degree in political science or law. He has never held political office. In other words, he simply was good at traveling around the country and debating people on various topics with no credentials whatsoever that would indicate he knew what he was talking about.
Put simply, he was an entertainer.
It is interesting to note that, just moments before he was killed, he was debating someone about mass shootings. When the person he was talking to asked Kirk how many mass shooters…
