The approach to teaching as though it is a science is part of the problem. Teaching is only part science. To that end, we can talk about "teaching behavior" and measurable data points, pie charts, and all that claptrap. What far too many people who left the classroom and are now "experts" fail to understand is that teaching is just as much an art as it is a science. There are certain "teaching behaviors" that cannot be taught and retained if they are not in the teacher to begin with. 2 teachers using precisely the same "instructional practices" can end up with very different outcomes.
