Socially there is little to envy about the 1950s. It was a horrible time, particularly if you were not white. Lynchings, segregation, and discrimination were rampant, and not just in the south. I was born in 1958, so I saw a little of the 1950s lifestyle when I was growing up in the early 1960s. No one should want to go back to that mess.
