School Shootings: A Quiz

There have been so many it’s hard to remember much about them

Another school shooting took place yesterday, this time in Nashville. Three children and three adults were killed, along with the shooter. It’s just another day in America. It is remarkable only in that it is unremarkable. We have become so accustomed and desensitized to school shootings that it is hard to remember much about any one of them. They all start to sound alike after a while.

The pattern is almost predictable. We receive the news of a school shooting along with a description of the victims and the assailant. People on the left call for gun control. People on the right hand out the usual dose of thoughts and prayers and repeat the stale lie that guns don’t kill people. Within a week or so other news items bump the newest shooting off the front page. In a relatively short time, the American public moves on and we forget about school shootings until the next one. Wash and repeat, as they say.

The descriptions all start to sound alike too. A former student who was picked on comes back for revenge. A loner who was obsessed with guns put information on their Facebook page but no one notified authorities. A student with mental health problems shot several people and then took their own life. It becomes a cruel fill-in-the-blank narrative where…
