Rudy Giuliani: A Prophet for Our Times

I love malaprops and other statements that make me scratch my head. I occasionally quote the king of the malaprops, Yogi Berra. “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” What’s not to love about a statement like that? Another of Yogi’s quotes I love is “The past ain’t what it used to be.” Classic stuff.

A good friend of mine once recorded a CD of his band and titled it “Better Than It Sounds.” Perfect.

Then there are those quotes that are just so dumb they are hilarious. It is hard to beat former Vice President Dan Quayle when it comes to dumb statements. Poor Dan. He said things like “If we don’t succeed, we run the risk of failure.” Some might call him Captain Obvious for that one. Probably my favorite Dan Quaylism is when he was addressing the United Negro College Fund and he said, “What a waste it is to lose one’s mind. Or not to have a mind. How true that is.” For those who are unfamiliar with the United Negro College Fund, their slogan actually is “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

This leads me to Rudy Giuliani. On August 19, 2018, he was being interviewed by Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press, and he said the following: “Truth isn’t truth.” Let that sink in for a second. Truth isn’t truth. Chuck Todd…
