Nice topic! I spent much of the summer of 1981 hiking solo in the Sequoia National Park area. I can't believe it's been 40 years. It was truly a spiritual journey. I also hiked a section of the Appalachian Trail in Vermont by myself the following year. I loved hiking alone, but I agree - you need to be prepared.
