My son works for LA Metro transportation in GIS. One project he initiated was a coordinated effort between law enforcement and his office. They tracked the movements of the homeless population using mass transit. My son then constructed maps off that information so those who were initiating assistance programs would know the location of people needed assistance when they created shelters, food pantries, and the like.
