My son lives in downtown LA. It's a beautiful place. I have been to San Francisco several times. It is probably my favorite city to visit. All cities have areas that are rough, decaying, etc. I think the conservatives in the U.S. want to paint these places as the result of liberal policies to scare people into voting for "law and order" (i.e. conservative) candidates.
