My first wife was from Jamaica, and we too lived in a suburb of Minneapolis. My son attended a school where there were few brown or black faces in the early 2000s. He loved reading, and if there was a book he needed or wanted, I think I would have donated plasma to make sure he got it, at the book fair or elsewhere. He is a graduate of USC in Los Angeles. His grandfather in Jamaica was a doctor, his one aunt is an anesthesiologist, and another aunt is a lawyer. Me? I was just a teacher.
