My experience with whiteness was similar. I got my first lesson in whiteness when I was in the Army. I was in a squad of 15 troops and I was the lone white face. On graduation day when we were shipping out, the whole platoon, led by our black troops, started singing "Kiss Him Goodbye." And we were loud! LOL
