I've been teaching for 35 years and I have been against giving grades for 35 years. What the heck does a B+ in English mean? Does it tell us what a student can do well or not-so-well? Should I trust a doctor who got a C on their exams? What about an accountant? It is so remarkably stupid. I like portfolio assessments and competency-based evaluations. Just show us you can do it. Who gives a rip if you got an 89% or a 92%???
