It is hard to separate what is an inspired work from what is a stolen work. It is a matter of degrees. I'm reminded of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and "He's So Fine." It seems unlikely someone as talented as Harrison would outright steal the melody from a well-known song, and yet that was what he was accused of. That cost him over $500,000. In all likelihood that melody was planted in his brain years before and it found its way out.
