I’m reminded of Jerry Kosinski’s novel “The Painted Bird.” There is a scene where someone paints a bird bright colors and then the bird cannot find a flock to join because it was always seen as an outsider by the unpainted birds. We seem to do the reverse with regard to women and makeup. It is the unpainted bird that gets attacked.
