If you read the Communist Manifesto with an open mind, and then apply the teachings of Marx to those countries that said they were following his teaching, you will come to the realization that they never followed Marx's teachings at all. Marx's vision was of what would follow a highly-industrialized state of wealthy owners. This was not the case in Russia in 1917, nor of China in 1949, and not of Cambodia in the late 1970's. I find that most people who read the Communist Manifesto do so for one reason - to say they read it so they can criticize socialism.
