If the tenants are not paying rent due to their misfortune, how are the landlords profiting from that misfortune. Evictions are expensive for the landlord, and many tenants trash the place on their way out so the landlord not only has to pay for a large clean up, but they lose a month or more in additional rent. The banks holding the mortgage expect to get paid just the same. Where would you propose these landlords get the money to pay the mortgages if not from rent?
