I work in the hood and spend a lot of time there. I can think of a number of reasons for the problem you mention. One is cost. Organic produce is expensive, and the families I know are just squeaking by. They don't have the money to buy expensive produce, even if it is healthier. Secondly, with the crime rate (at least where I work), I wouldn't open a business there either. Shootings and robberies are daily events, as are assaults and carjackings. It's not even news anymore. Who can we ask to risk their lives so that the hood has organic produce few people want to buy?
