I work a side gig at Home Depot. We are very very short on workers, so much so that entire departments have no one working in them. One person is given a phone to answer calls in several departments to make it look like there is actually someone there. It is nothing to have half of the cashiers call in sick on any given shift. We used to have 5 asst managers. Now we have 3. Management complains they cannot find workers. Starting pay is $12 per hour. Across the street Target is paying $15, Chipotle is paying $15, Costco is paying $16. And yet Home Depot stubbornly refuses to raise the wages.
