I used to tell my colleagues that I make my grades out at the beginning of the term and adjust the difficulty of the course so that the grades turn out right. Grading is such an antiquated concept. What exactly does a "B" in English mean? I guess that depends on the teacher, the curriculum, and the school. But at the end of every term, thousands of students across the country get Bs in English that all mean something different. I would think by now we could find a better way to give feedback to students and parents than the ancient practice of letter grades.
