I think the U.S. has been fascist for decades. I read a book in an upper level history class titled "Friendly Fascism" that spoke about how fascism lures people in by placing the blame for their suffering on others. Another term for this is "velvet fascism." It's a sneaky kind of fascism that worms its way into feeling "normal."
