I think the garage was the original "man cave." It's where men went to "work" on the car when they weren't getting along with their spouse. The fridge was a way to grab a beer without going back into the house. Then came the TV so they could "watch da game" while ostensibly working on the car. My neighbor growing up practically lived in his garage. After meeting his wife, I understood why.
