I retired last May after 36 years. You describe it perfectly. The kids are so addicted to mindlessly scrolling on the phones that they can’t pay attention to anything else. When we tried to have a zero-phone policy, the parents got angry and demanded their kids be allowed to have phones. Some parents even call or text their kids in class!!! I don’t miss teaching. I have better things to do than watch kids watch their phones.
