I never understood why Medium imposed that rule, but that said, how hard is it to get 100 followers? If you don't write very much or very often, it will take some time. Medium tends to reward people who are more active. Even now, after almost 2 years on Medium, it takes me several weeks to gain another 100 followers. It is a slow, steady process and I don't think there are any legitimate shortcuts.
