I loved math until I got to Algebra II. That is where I could no longer see the connection of math to my life. It felt like we were doing problems for the sake of keeping the idea alive and our teacher employed. Imaginary numbers were the tipping point. I dropped the class and took auto shop. I am 63 years old and have still never encountered a quadratic equation in the real world. By the way, my son majored in math at USC.
