I just retired from 36 years of high school classroom teaching. The majority of my students had an attention span comparable to a 5 year old. They are unable to sustain attention to reading unless it is giving them the dopamine fix you reference. We have become intellectually lazy and impatient. We want fast food, fast answers, and fast fixes. Your final sentence says it all.
