I have read Horowitz's earlier work. In his early days, he described himself as a Marxist intellectual and a member of the New Left of the 1960s. He was a friend of Huey Newton. He actually helped the Black Panthers raise money for a school in Oakland. Then around 1980 he flipped his political leanings to the far right.
