I have been teaching writing for 36 years, and I have to admit in order to find any success on Medium, I have had to compromise if I wanted anyone to read anything I write. I have seen articles written in the more traditional way that get a few claps and maybe one comment. People who adhere to the standard rules of writing are probably not going to last long. When I look at my earliest pieces, I wince. Now I understand why so few people read them. Online readers need that white space and love those one-liners and single words.
