I have 6 first cousins on my mother's side, but I don't know how many on my dad's. My dad had a sister who ran away in the 1950s. I know little about her. I am only close to 2 of my first cousins, but I am close to a second cousin, once removed (we have the same great-grandfather who shares my name).
