I had the, um, pleasure of teaching about Native American treaty rights in northern Wisconsin in the late 1980s. My students were often on the boat landings yelling epithets at the Native Americans. The next day they would be in my class learning why the Native Americans are right. It was not a comfortable place to be. The head of the KKK in Wisconsin operated Johnny's Bar downtown. Wisconsin: The Northernmost Southern State.
