I attended the funeral of a student of mine who killed herself. I remember the pastor said she had used a long-term solution for a short-term problem. Then he asked the audience how many of us had ever thought of doing it as a rhetorical question. Many suicides are the result of depression, which is a mental illness. How about those who kill themselves by smoking? By overeating? By driving recklessly? That is just suicide on the installment plan.
