I am the only white male teacher in a school that has a student body that is 100% African-American. I have been called racist numerous times when I've confronted students. "Don't you think this is a strange place for a racist to work?" I ask them. They think about it for a second and then start laughing. They get it. I know how it feels to be called that. It hurts. I'm glad it hurts. It makes me think.
