I am one of the only white teachers in a school that is 99% black. I experience this almost daily. Also, my first wife was from Jamaica and when I would go out with my friends in Montego Bay, we hit the local spots where only the locals went (no tourists). Sometimes I am sure I was the only white guy and the only American for miles. It was then that I discovered my accent and just what the feeling of being different REALLY felt like.
