Excellent topic and well-written! The first person put to death by firing squad after the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty was Gary Gilmore in Utah in 1977. The movie "The Executioner's Song" was about that. As for me, if I was in that situation and had to choose, I would choose lethal injection, then firing squad, and lastly electric chair. Some states still offer hanging as an option. I remember when the gas chamber was still used. Thank goodness we don't still use that, and thank goodness even more we don't behead people, though with the current drift in our country I could see someone suggesting that.
