As they say, PhD = Piled High and Deep. There are a lot of brilliant people sporting PhD's, but there are also a lot of brilliant people NOT sporting PhD's. Likewise, I have met some people holding PhDs that were remarkably unimpressive and people NOT having PhD's that were equally unimpressive. The title simply means you took a lot of classes. It has little to do with the intellectual acumen possessed by the person.
