Are We Ready to Send the 1940s Babies Packing?

Bill Clinton. George W. Bush. Al Gore. John Kerry. Hillary Clinton. Mitt Romney. Donald Trump. Joe Biden. Bernie Sanders.

What do they all have in common? They all came of age during the 1960s.

As a matter of fact, they were all born in the 1940s, with Bernie Sanders being the oldest. He was born in 1941. Joe Biden was born in 1942. In 1943, John Kerry was born. 1946 brought us Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. In 1947, Hillary Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, or just plain Hillary (take your pick), and Mitt Romney came along. Bringing up the rear is Al Gore, born in 1948.

Of the 16 major-party candidates in the presidential elections since 1992, only 4 were not born in the 1940s. George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, and John McCain were older, and Barack Obama was younger. It is worth mentioning that of these four, only one of them won — Barack Obama, and he had a tough time winning the nomination of the Democratic Party over Hillary Clinton.

With the 2024 election looming on the not-too-distant horizon, already there is speculation as to which of the 1940s babies will be the candidates, again. For the GOP, Trump is teasing, or is he not teasing? On the Democratic side, Joe Biden has not committed…
