Another way to turn down the heat would be to eliminate lifetime appointments and replace them with staggered 10 year appointments. That way every president would get to appoint justices. There would be no reason to appoint the youngest ideologically pure judge they could find so their “legacy” would last 40 years. 80 year old justices would not have to cling to their seats until a president from their party is elected. 15 justices serving 10-year staggered terms.
