An African-American writer I follow wrote that he thought only black people should get the day off. That made me think. He has a point. Why should rich white men get Juneteenth off, while poor blacks work? It reminded me of Veterans Day, when so many non-veterans get the day off while we vets go to work. As for the 4th of July, I wish we would call it something else, like The Mid-summer Festival or something. I'm not really sure what we are independent of anymore, except reality.
