A number of years ago I taught a class called "Lifesmarts." In it I taught financial management, career choice (how much school it required and what the career paid), etc. We read leases and talked about what to watch out for. I taught them how to go to small claims court. We took field trips to the grocery store (with the store's permission) to find out how much food costs. They scanned the ads for apartments so they knew how much they are and where they are located. They learned how the law changes for them when they turn 18. All this and much more.
